Christmas and New Year and other catastrophes

Hello, flist. *waves* I hope your slide into the new year (as we say in German) was enjoyable. I celebrated with my good friend [info]only_gremo and my poor dog Gina who was very nervous throughout the evening.

I got some awesome Christmas and belated birthday presents. My awesome new seat pillow is awesome (I told my aunt that even though I have a big couch I sit on the cold floor in front of it so she brought me one for Christmas). I got lots of new clothes, sweets, a poker set, a door bell, money etc.

One of the best presents I got is from [info]only_gremo: the graphic novel "Alan's war", a story about a WWII soldier. It's a collection of small stories not about famous battle scenes or heroic stuff. For instance: Alan got a purple heart medal (being wounded in combat) because he fell out of a window not because someone shot him.

Now the bad news. I came home yesterday and my flat doesn't have running water. It still hasn't. I informed the landlord and he tried to fix it yesterday. We first thought it might be frozen but the pipes are isolated (is that the right word) with that yellow wool stuff, so now we think it might be some sort of clogging. My landlord is now about to remove a part of the pipe to test that theory.

Anyway, I'm still in the spirit of the holidays and told myself that it isn't too bad. Other people don't have running water or a roof over their heads, so I will manage for a few days if I have to. You can wash your hair in a bucket. :)

I got the key to the flat under my own where I can use the toilet (it was pretty cold at night - I could see my own breath in front of my face). And my toilet is still functioning - you just need water from the bucket.

All in all it would have been worse if my heating wouldn't work. It's -4 °C (25 F) and snowing. :(

I wish you all a wonderful year with heating, running water and electricity!

My resolution: read more books!

ETA: Fixed at 4 pm this afternoon.
