So, it's time to put the card on the table. The EURO is only a stone throw away, we are busy "gipfelstürmen", everyone and his dog has an opinion and new squads are being announced on a daily basis. *looks disapproving at all the teams who haven't done so yet* I'd like to add my two cents, of course. Let's end the metaphor juggling and start with
Germany.
It was a big surprise to hear a "nobody" like Marko Marin being nominated. He hasn't had a game for the national team yet, he is 19 years old and plays for a second league club. Not the best basis for a shot at playing in the Euro. Marin is of course profiting from Bernd Schneiders' injury (Schnix, you are not giving us the last big final like you promised, do you? ) worries. Another big surprise is the nomination of Rene Adler (bit disappointing for Hildebrand). But I can't see what the big fuss is about. It's not like the second and third goalie get many chances of actually playing.
I underlined all the players who are currently Bundesliga employees. Hope I didn't miss any and (without counting the German Bundesliga players) we can look out for
35 40 familiar faces this summer!
Speaking of Bundesliga footballers. Look at Iwan Sajenko of Nürnberg. He is currently the only (!) "legionnaire" in the Russian national team. That's right. All their nominees do actually play in Russia and that in itself is so amazing that it has to be mentioned.
(This post is going to be updated until all the 23-man squads are officially announced.)
PS:
Ham-Kam is the best football club name I have ever heard.
